Veneers are extremely thin pieces of durable, tooth-shaped material which are custom-made (for color and shape) in a dental laboratory. These restorations are applied onto the front surface of the teeth to create an attractive and beautiful smile. Dental veneers can be used to mask a variety of issues including chips, cracks, worn down teeth, discoloration, gaps and more. The office of Washington Dental Care offers traditional porcelain and EMAX veneers.
As with most dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may need to be replaced someday, but they are very durable and can last for many years, giving you a beautiful, long-lasting smile.
The procedure of getting veneers
Getting veneers usually requires a couple of visits to our office. In most cases, little-or-no anesthesia is required during the treatment. The teeth are prepared by lightly buffing and shaping the enamel to allow for the thickness of the restoration. An impression or mold of the teeth is made, and a color shade is chosen in accordance with your natural tooth color. All of this information will be sent to a laboratory where your veneers will be created. On the next visit, the teeth will be cleansed, and a special etching liquid is applied to achieve a strong bond. Using dental bonding cement, the veneer is fixed onto the tooth, and a special light is used to harden the bond. We will give you care instructions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing, and regular in-office visits will help prolong the life of your new veneers.
