At the office of Washington Dental Care, we are deeply committed to providing the most gentle and comforting care for our patients. If you have a fear of visiting the dentist because of a previous bad experience or you suffer from dental anxiety, we can help. We offer sedation options to help make you more comfortable and relaxed at your dental appointments. We never want to see patients delay dental treatments as it can have serious effects on oral health.
Sedation Dentistry involves the use of a variety of drugs called sedatives to calm a patient or put them in a relaxed state during the course of their dental treatments. Sedatives work by suppressing the central nervous system to allow patients to feel relaxed and have comfortable dental experience.
We offer the following types of sedation for our patients:
- Oral Sedation: An oral sedative is taken in the form of a pill before the start of your dental procedure. The dosage can be adjusted to produce a mild to moderate sedation effect. The oral sedative will make you feel more relaxed and drowsy. The drowsiness will last for some time after your procedure, so you must get someone along to drive you home after your appointment.
- Local anesthesia: A local anesthetic is used to numb the nerves at the treatment site. This is done to prevent the sensation of pain. The anesthetic is administered via an injection given at the treatment site right before starting the procedure.
At Washington Dental Care, we treat our patients using our extensive skills and experience, and an exceptional level of care during all dental treatments, whether it is a simple cleaning or an extensive procedure.
